Getting everything on order for the 1 September 2010. Picking up sample t-shirts to have a look at for the gym. Going to get quoted for the gym sign once I have the measurements of it (should have them by the end of today)

Hoping to get a woman who does powerplate to move her business into the gym. Hoping that it will bring a lot of the people who she trains to join the gym.

Just busy lining everything up so that we are up and running at 100% for the 1st September!!

It’s been a busy day. I’ve been chasing the current gym owners to repair 1 of the treadmills that I will be purchasing, and they have finally sent it in for repairs, it should be back on Saturday .

Got a few quotes to have custom T-shirts made. got a few pretty good deals, hoping to maybe push the price down a bit by ordering in bulk. I’m also going to see a company tomorrow about the quote which I was given regarding TV’s and a sound system, hopefully be able to negotiate some installation costs.

2 weeks ago I put in an offer to buy the local gym. I didn’t expect them to accept it as it was about half of what they said was there lowest amount they were willing to accept.

Currently the gyms financials are in a mess! They are losing over R4000 every month. The first thing I did was work out how many members I would need every month, to break even. I calculated that to break even (loan repayment included) I would need 71 members in total.

I then had a look at which expenses were the largest and what the reason was for them being so high? I saw that water was a huge cost each month, so I contacted the woman who sells the water locally and persuaded her to give the gym an unlimited amount of water in exchange for a gym membership. I then contacted the owner of the building to see if it was possible to drop the rent slightly. He agreed on dropping the rent by R1000/month.

This past week I have been looking at the current list of members compared to the list of members from 3 years prior. The gym went from 150 members to 48members in 3 years?! Now how could I possibly get the previous members, and more people, to join? I have been getting quotes from all over for TV’s, mirrors and sound systems. Currently I gym has no TV’s, a tiny hifi and 1 mirror that is so thin that I cant see both my shoulders in. I’m also looking at getting some brighter lighting in there. Currently it looks like a damn dungeon! I am also going to be having formal goal specific training classes in the evenings for those members who would like to join in. It will also hopefully give the gym a bit of atmosphere through the quieter months. I will also be putting up a health and wellness board with all sorts of interesting information regarding training and diet as well as articles regarding to general wellbeing.

I am going to be handing out flyers at the gym today to ask the current members for some of their suggestions, and whether they would be interested in joining in on some classes, and what changes they would like to see in the gym.

We have come up with a name and a sign for the gym. Its simple but I think that it looks good! The previous sign didn’t even tell people that it was a gym. Many people in the town didn’t even know that there was a gym.Gym Sign
